Ballarat Batteries Open Day

RAT FM Joins the Fun at Ballarat Batteries Community Event

May 30th 2026

RAT FM was thrilled to broadcast live from Ballarat Batteries for a fantastic community event that brought together local businesses, community groups, great food, and plenty of entertainment. One of the biggest highlights of the day was meeting Marshall Matt, the much-loved #HollerAMarshall mascot. Marshall Matt kept the crowds entertained throughout the event and certainly stole the show with a fabulous dance performance to Queen’s classic hit Radio Ga Ga. His enthusiasm was infectious, attracting plenty of attention from passing motorists who showed their support with a steady chorus of toots and waves throughout the day. The event also featured a community BBQ, with all proceeds proudly supporting the Ballarat Men’s Shed. The fundraiser was a wonderful example of the community spirit that makes Ballarat such a great place to live, work, and volunteer. Visitors who stopped by Ballarat Batteries were treated to some fantastic promotions and giveaways. Customers who had their batteries tested or replaced had the chance to receive a range of prizes, while families enjoyed show bags and other giveaways throughout the day. Food lovers were also spoilt for choice, with several local food vendors serving up delicious treats. RAT FM had the opportunity to meet the teams behind Suga High Co and Trixies Catering, both of whom were busy keeping visitors well fed and satisfied throughout the event. Our team enjoyed speaking with attendees, local businesses, and community organisations while sharing the excitement of the day with listeners across Ballarat and beyond. Events like this showcase the strength of our local community and the importance of supporting local businesses while raising funds for worthy causes. A big thank you goes to Ballarat Batteries for inviting RAT FM along, to Marshall Matt for keeping everyone entertained, to the Sebastopol Men’s Shed for their community work, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello. RAT FM is proud to support local events, local businesses, and local charities through our outside broadcasts and community engagement activities. Stay tuned to RAT FM for more community stories, local events, and outside broadcasts from around Ballarat – Proudly Ballarat.

Marshall Matt Takes Over the RAT FM Studio… Sort Of!

One of the funniest moments of the day occurred when our panel operator briefly stepped away from the broadcast desk to grab a bite to eat. Not wanting to miss an opportunity, Marshall Matt quickly stepped in and “took over” the RAT FM broadcast console.

While we can’t confirm whether any actual broadcasting experience was involved, Marshall Matt certainly looked right at home behind the controls, entertaining visitors and posing for plenty of photos. For a few moments, it appeared that RAT FM had found its newest panel operator!

Thankfully, our regular operator returned before any requests for non-stop Queen songs could make it to air, but Marshall Matt’s surprise appearance behind the desk was undoubtedly one of the most memorable and entertaining moments of the entire outside broadcast.

It’s safe to say that whether he’s dancing to Radio Ga Ga, waving to passing motorists, or pretending to run a radio station, Marshall Matt knows how to put a smile on people’s faces.
